You do not want to get the kitchen wrong! The beauty about all our Icon designs is that the kitchen layout is tried and tested, take a look here

Here are the most common mistakes and how to avoid them.

1. Wrong cabinet depth

Make sure your cabinets make the best use of all of the available space. Standard minimum depth your cabinets can be is 600mm,but if you have the space and budget, why not go wider and get more storage depth? Try 680mm or can be as high as 700mm.

2.  Incorrect cabinet height

Again, 2200mm is a common standard minimum for the overall height of the kitchen. In some cases this is adequate, particularly in homes with low ceilings.Tall cabinets really lift the look of a kitchen and create plenty of storage.

With the Onyx range of inclusions the ceiling height is 2700mm leaving a gap of 500mm. Again depending on budget, but increasing the cabinet height can make a big difference.

3. Forgetting fridge doors

Many plans have the fridge right up against the wall, make sure you leave enough room for the fridge door to swing in and out. To avoid this, you can increase the width of the refrigerator niche.

Darren Palmer wrote an article for Domain discussing how to find the perfect white paint, and we love it! Picking the paint colours when building your house can be daunting, and there is nothing wrong with playing it safe ad choosing white. Problem is there is at least 20 different shades of white to choose from, it sounds ridiculous but its true. Read the full article here and then be fully prepared when you come to your colour appointment.

Easter is fast approaching, and its a perfect time for entertaining and catching up with friends and family – but it can really put the heart of the home to the test! When you get the design of your kitchen right though, you will love to have your friends and family around all year long.

Top Tips:

  • Island bench A workstation which means the cook can prep without missing out on the party – this is a must!
  • Social hub Stools and a generous bench allow family and guests to enjoy each other’s company, and keep the cook company.
  • Storage A variety of cabinets and drawers allows easy access to all manner of kitchenalia, whilst also keeping bench space clear for the party.
  • Butler’s pantry A streamlined pantry is ideal for hiding all the work behind the soiree.
  • Double ovens Entertaining a large number of guests is much easier with two ovens on the go.

We are so excited to share our newest design – The Vista 34!

Timeless elegance meets modern practicality.

The Vista 34 has incorporated the features of Artisan by Icon Homes flagship display the Gurangai. Cantilevered eaves and a generous first floor planter box set this design apart. The features continue internally with generous bedrooms and a massive five separate living areas.

We’ve said it before, renovating is not always an easy option, and definitely not always the best decision – you still have an old house, just with a face lift. Those old pipes and electrical are still going to cause you problems, potentially even more now that you have your new shiny kitchen and bathroom up and running. Did you know that the lovely new double oven you picked is going to use up to x3 the power – which could mean you are going to end up needing to get a new electrical board? These are all potential speed humps in your renovation dream.

When you KDR, you get to keep everything you love about where you live and your community, BUT you get a brand new house – one that you have designed to be perfect for your family.

It’s that time of year, all the experts are getting their predictions in for the top trends for 2019. So today we look at the tile predictions for 2019 from the experts at Houzz.

1. Terrazzo tiles
Terrazzo is one of the biggest trends of 2019 – expect to see it everywhere from tiles and furniture to accessories in the coming year.

2. Super-sized slab tiles
This year’s Cersaie trends can be summed up in three words – large, colourful and natural. Marble-look ceramic slab tiles were particularly prominent.

3. Statement subway tiles
The classic white subway tile has had a makeover and interesting variations on this style will gain traction in 2019 – think sunshine yellow, fire-engine red, cobalt blue and forest green.

4. Refined concrete-look tiles
Raw, natural finishes were extremely prominent at Cersaie this year, and concrete was right at the forefront. But we’ve moved on from the very rugged concrete finishes of the last year or two; this year we will see softer, more refined-looking concrete.

5. Timber-look tiles
The natural look will remain a popular trend in 2019 as our love affair with indoor-outdoor living continues.
